  1. Discussion

My friend remember must include references

There are no “right” or “wrong” answers. It is important, however, that you make at least one reference to your assigned reading for this week and/or Power Point Presentation or Hand-out.

In addition to your posting, you must also respond to two (2) other students’ postings. It is important that all of your work is posted in clear and thoughtful ways with concern for respect, spelling, and grammar along with content and timeliness.

  1. In your workplace (or home if you are not employed outside of the home) are decisions reached most frequently based on authority, majority, or consensus? And what do you see as the major factors supporting that decision-making method?

When it comes to making decisions at my work place, almost all of the decisions making come from higher authority. The higher authority consist of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Supervisor, and Human Resource (HR).The CEO of the company is responsible for making all the managerial decisions, the supervisors follow the lead of the CEO, the HR is responsible for all the personnel of the business. The higher authority will send out memos, emails, or messages through the supervisor letting the staff know about any changes, requirements, and deadlines. Most of time staff members never get the time to talk and express their feeling or suggestions to higher authority. At my company there are a lot of demands and deadlines that the staff members must meet. At times I feel as if the higher authority don’t think about the staff needs when it comes to input. Many staff members have great suggestions and ideals that could help the company run a stress free environment. In the past when staff members have tried to voice their opinions during meeting, they get shot down with disappointment. When other employees see things like that happen, I believe they get afraid and keep their thoughts and suggestions to themselves.

When it comes to decision making, every person should have the right to express their input. Collaborating as group is a great way to hear each person suggestions and inputs. In order for decision making to be successful there has to be cooperation from the higher authority and employees. Hall Lavinia states that “Our experience has been that there is a growing interest in finding alternative to the win –lose decision –making approach. Negotiation, mediation, facilitation, and collaborative problem solving are all examples of consensus- based win-win approaches”.

Week Two Discussion-The Neutral Analyst Group A

  1. In your workplace (or home if you are not employed outside of the home) are decisions reached most frequently based on authority, majority, or consensus? And what do you see as the major factors supporting that decision-making method?

In psychology, “Decision-making is regarded as the cognitive process resulting in the selection of a belief or a course of action among several alternative possibilities. Every decision-making process produces a final choice that may or may not prompt action. Decision-making is the process of identifying and choosing alternatives based on the values and preferences of the decision-maker (Bergland, 2015).” The thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. When trying to make a good decision, a person must weight the positives and negatives of each option, and consider all the alternatives. In order for it to be an effective decision, the person must be able to predict the outcome of all options that are presented on the table, so to speak and base the items that dictate which option is the best for that particular situation.

In my line of work it can vary because say if there’s no mandatory 6 to 7 day work week then we have the option of not working which gives us the majority ruling that most of us prefer not to work on our days off because of other jobs or school obligations, but if it becomes mandatory then the authority figure will require us to work those specific days. I also found this quite interesting as I was reading one article in Psychology Today, “A February 2015 study, from the Okinawa Institute of Science & Technology (OIST) Graduate University in Japan, found that a key part of the brain involved in decision making, called the striatum appears to operate hierarchically within its three different sub-regions. The striatum is part of the basal ganglia, which makes up the inner core of the brain and processes both decision-making & subsequent actions (Bergland, 2015).” As I was reading I was also informed that the neuroscientists divide the striatum into three regions: the first one would be the Ventral (VS) which is responsible for motivations, the second one would be the Dorsomedial (DMS) and is responsible for adaptive decisions, and three would be Dorsolateral (DSL) and that’s responsible for routine actions, it goes more in depth, but I gave your the jist of it.

Just to clear up some question regarding the Unit 2 assignment:

It is not necessary to answer each question posted.

The question are there to guide, and structure the essay.

It is not necessary to answer each question in order.

It is not necessary to address every question in your paper.

The paper should be a well written 4 page document in APA format that covers the content ask by the questions.

You may want to use the questions or some of them as Sub-headings.

What will not make a good essay is a list of questions and then answers, that is an exam not a paper.
